blocks crocheted afghan
Crochet hook of choice
Worstened weight yarn, one skein of 9 different colors, or scrap yarn
Since this is an afghan, gauge isn't really important. Work till desired size, or work a larger border if desired. Have fun!
Beg at lower right corner of afghan, with first color, ch 8. Sc in 2nd ch from hook in each ch across - 7 sc. Ch 1, turn. Work even in sc for 6 rows more, or as needed for "square".
Next square: Change to new color. Work 7 rows sc. Sl st in corner st and work slip stitches as needed down side of square to beg of previous square. Ch 1, turn. 7 sc across square, repeat for 6 rows (7 rows total).
Next square: Change to new color. Join at top right corner of the first square in the second "row". Work 7 rows sc, then sl st down side of square to corner, sc down side of this square, ch 1, turn. Work even in sc for 6 rows more, catching the sides of adjacent square (so you don't have to sew any seams later on). Work 2 sc in corner stitch of adjacent square, work 7 rows sc. End off.
Follow as established, changing colors as desired. Work until desired "half size". Then beginning at first square of last group, work in established pattern but dec 1 square at end of each row until one square remains. End off.
Border: Join any color at corner st, sc around throw, working 2 sc in each corner. Join. Repeat round as desired with any colors.
Last round: Work reverse sc all the way around, or work picots for a fancier trim. End off. Weave in all ends, and enjoy!
