Scrap yarn afghan:

Using hook of choice & scrap yarn, chain any even number of stitches plus one.

Changing colors as desired, sc in first st from hook, dc in next st, *sc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, repeat from * to end of row.

Next row: ch 1, *sc in first st, dc in next stitch, rep from * around until end.

Repeat last row desired number of times.

Variation:

First row: ch 1, *sc, dc in first st, skip one stitch, rep from * around.
Second row: Ch 1, skip first stitch, *sc, dc in next stich, skip next stitch, repeat from * around.
Repeat desired number of rows.

Variation 2:
Chain any multiple of 3 plus 1:
First row: ch 1, *(sc, 2 dc) all in first stitch, skip two stitches, rep from * to end, in last stitch, sc.
Next row: ch 1, (sc, 2 dc) all in first stitch, in every sc across work (sc, 2 dc).
Rep desired number of rows.

Variation 3: Same as variation 2 except make (sc, hdc, dc) in every stitch across.
